“Frozen” Snowflake Spiral Hair Pins

Like you all know, this Saturday is my daughter’s Frozen Birthday Party. She has her Elsa gown and shoes. But, I was thinking in doing some snowflakes hair pins like the ones Elsa wear in the movie.

I was thinking on doing them with foami, but one day I went to Dollar Tree Store and saw this beautiful acrylic snowflakes that where the perfect size for the hair pins. So, I decided to buy them in two colors: clear and blue. They are perfect.

I wanted to make spiral hair pins because I remembered I had some of those and they were beautiful because when you put them on your hair you only can see the snowflake or the flower, or any shape you want in yours.

Without any more talking, let’s learn how to do them.

  • Stainless Steel wire (I don’t know what gauge is it but it’s the one used to make flower arrangements)
  • Wire tweezers
  • Wire cutter
  • Hot glue gun and sticks
  • Acrylic snowflakes or any other shape you want.

  1. Cut the wire in 3″ -4″long pieces.
  2. Take one piece of wire and start bending it in circular motion with tweezers until you make an spiral. At this time the spiral will be flat.
  3. Pull from the center until it form like a little tree. With the center up.
  4. Put some hot glue in the snowflake and press yn the center of the spiral until it dries.
  5. Push back the spiral and there you have a spiral hair pin.

To put it on you just have to put it in your hair in circular motion until the wire is not visible.

Hope you liked this post. You can give them as Christmas gifts or like a Frozen party favor. Keep sharing and put your pics on the comments if you tried it.

“FROZEN” Food Cards

I don’t have to mention that you are going to be seeing to much “Frozen” theme crafts around here for some time. That’s because I’m planning my daughter’s 2nd Birthday Party. What a good Reason to Craft!

I’m the type of person that thinks… “If I can do it, why buy it?”. So, I’m making almost everything myself, including these cute little food cards. I really loved the chalkboard thing, so I did them like that too. The best part is that if I change my mind about a food, I can just erase it and write the new food to serve. Well, whithout more to say, let’s see how to make them.

You will need:

  • Cardstock: The one used to make posters or in school. I bought the white one at Dollar Tree, but you can also find it at Walmart or craft stores and Office supplies.
  • Chalkpaint
  • Chalk and chalk marker
  • Decorations of preference: I used some “Frozen” tape that I found at Dollar Tree, Cut the characters from a “Frozen” playing card set also found at Dollar Tree. You can use stickers or whatever you want.
  • Foam brush or roller
  • Scissors
  • Double side tape or hot glue

  1. Cut the cardstock in 5″x10″ pieces. And bend them at the middle (like a card) to make it stand.
  2. Paint one of the outer sides with the chalk paint and let them dry 1 hr. Paint it again and let cure for 24 hrs before continuing with the next step.
  3. Cover the painted area with chalk for conditioning. Wipe it with a wet towel.
  4. Start decoration. Make a frame with the decorative tape. Cut some character from the playing cards and tape it in any place of the food card that looks good for you. I prefer in a corner.
  5. Write the food name with the chalk marker and, voilà!, you have a hand made food card.

I tape everything instead of gluing it because this way I can take out the decorations and reuse it with another theme.

Hope you like this post and don’t forget to comment and share it!

    DIY Chalkboards

    Family Poll

Chalkboards are one of the most used the things this days. They are used in parties to make invitations, write party theme related messages, etc.
In this case, I made them to put some data in my sister in law’s Gender Reveal Party. One of them I used to write the final results of a family poll that we did about who thinks is girl or boy. The other one to write baby’s gender in accordance with some Old Wives Tales. I must say that everything indicates it was a girl, but no, it is a boy!

Anyway, today I’m going back o tell you how to do this easy chalkboards for your next party or to decorate the house.

    You will need:

    1. Foam board white or black, I used white one. (you can found it at Dollar Tree, Walmart or any craft store)

    2. Chalk paint (At Walmart or any craft store)

    3. Sponge roller (at Walmart)

    4. Chalk (I used the sidewalk ones found on Dollar Tree)

    5. Chalk marker or any other chalk (at Walmart)

    6. Ruler

    7. Exacto knife

    8. Pencil

    1. Measure the foam board with a ruler and mark it with a pencil in accordance with the measures you want yours. Mine was 8″ x 10″. Cut it with the exacto knife.

    2. Paint the foam board on one side with the chalk paint and the sponge roller. Wait 1 hr and paint again.

    3. The worst part is waiting. Because after this last coat of paint, you have to let it cure for 24hrs.

    4. After the 24 hrs have passed, the next step is coat the chalkboard with chalk. All of the painted part to conditioning it. Wipe it of with a damp cloth and your chalkboard is ready to use.

Also you can put it in a frame or make one on it. In this case, I paint the borders with acrylic paint.

    Old Wives Tales

Use your chalks or chalk marker to write the message you want!

Isn’t it easy? And the result is cute!

The best part is that they are reusable. I redecorate and reuse them for my daughter’s Frozen birthday party, to write some movie quotes. The only con is that I used chalk markers on it and when I try to erase it, I could still se the marks. So, I put on a fine coat of chalk paint, cure it and conditioner it again for 24 hrs. Then redecorate them. Here’s the final product:

I put some glitter tape like a border instead of painting it and glued some Frozen characters that I cut from some play cards that I bought on Dollar Tree.

I used the marker again because I like the fine point. But, normal chalk is good too.

    The decoration is on you!
